Defending Our Values: Politics and the Separation of Church and State in an Election Year

Primary tabs

Monday, April 9, 2018 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Join Rob Boston the Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship (RVUUF) Hall, 87 4th St in Ashland, for his assessment of politics and the separation of church and state in difficult times. Separation of church and state is under sustained attack from the White House, in the halls of Congress, in state legislatures and even from many pulpits. Rob will examine what’s at stake in the ongoing struggle to maintain Thomas Jefferson’s wall of separation. He will also outline the benefits of church-state separation and consider the question of what a society based on truly secular government and values would look like.

Rob Boston is the Director of Communications for Americans United for Separation of Church and State. Rob, who has worked at Americans United since 1987, also serves as editor of AU's Church & State magazine. Rob is the author of four books, most notably Why the Religious Right Is Wrong About Separation of Church and State (Prometheus Books, 1993; second edition, 2003) and Taking Liberties: Why Religious Freedom Doesn’t Give You The Right To Tell Other People What To Do (Prometheus Books, 2014). He has appeared on MSNBC, CNN and Fox News Channel and has been quoted by numerous print and online media outlets. He represents Americans United at speaking engagements around the country and internationally.
