Secular versus Religious Morality in the Age of Trump

Primary tabs

Monday, March 13, 2017 - 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Author Phil Zuckerman will speak Monday, March 13th, 7-9 PM at the Rogue Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship Hall, 87 4th St, Ashland. Many Americans assume that religion is the main source of morality, and that religious people are thus more moral than secular people. Phil will argue that the recent election of Trump should cause us to strongly reconsider that long-standing assumption. The truth is, secular men and women are more moral than their religious peers on a host of contemporary issues, and this lecture will explore how and why this is so.

Phil Zuckerman is the author of several books, including The Nonreligious (Oxford, 2016), Living the Secular Life (Penguin, 2014), Faith No More (Oxford, 2012), and Society Without God (NYU, 2008). He is a professor of sociology at Pitzer College, and the founding chair of the nation’s first secular studies program. He blogs for Psychology Today and the Huffington Post. He lives in Claremont, California, with his wife and three children.
