Dr. Richard Carrier: How the First Christians Claimed to Know what they Know (and Why That Matters Now)
in the Meese Room, SOU Hannon Library

Modern ways of knowledge about the world seek a continuous improvement of ideas and methods, using logic and repeated testing by observation and experiment. Early Christian writings point to a very different way of seeking trusted sources of knowledge. Dr. Carrier will discuss the vast difference between these ways of knowing and how this difference reverberates throughtout the modern era and current religious controversies.

Dr. Richard Carrier, author and ancient history scholar, earned advanced degrees in ancient history from University of California, Berkeley, and Columbia University. He has written and spoken extensively on early Greek, Roman, and Christian intellectual history.
